Torch Igniters
I designed three torch/augmented spark igniters to put Low Flow Test Stand through its paces. I employed a combination of metal 3D printing and CNC machining to develop these torches, each defined by its injector style.
Each torch informed the design improvements for the next version, as well as shed light on best practices operating the test stand. I primarily concentrated on tuning the propellant timing (leads and lags) to achieve the most stable combustion I could. The machined copper torch (simplest) demonstrated the best stability and reliabillity, ultimately achieving 100% ignition success across 20 fires.
